💬 Do you or your kids love books about art? I grew up in a house filled with art books (my dad was an artist when he was younger) and it definitely had an impact on me. Swipe to peek inside and keep reading to learn more.

🖼️At the Louvre the mysterious and intriguing subjects of 30 other artworks are actually very upset that the Mona Lisa steals away all the attention, is always under the spotlight and they don’t get the same treatment. Including iconic artworks such as The Raft of the Medusa, Liberty Leading the People, Venus de Milo, the Great Sphinx and many others, the subjects in the artworks speak in the first person about the its story, how they feel, their true story and a lot more - all of this with a lot of humour! One by one, the subjects go on to present themselves and make us laugh out loud.

✍️🎨 Combining amazing photography of the artworks with Quentin Blake’s stunning and distinctive illustrations, this narrative non-fiction book is stunning daily my current favourite art book! The sense of humour is outstanding and there’s so much to learn from this book! 🙂

2. 📖 The Art and Life of Hilma af Klint | ✍️ Ylva Hillström @ylvahillstrom | 🎨 Karin Eklund @karin_eklund_studio | 📚 @thamesandhudson

🖌️Hilma was born in Sweden in 1862 and end d up becoming the first person to create an abstractionist painting, despite the fact Kandinsky claimed he was the first. Why are Hilma’s artworks special? She believed she was able to hear and see spirits (the invisible world) and interpret that through her art. The book features 15 of its iconic paintings!

I still can’t quite believe this but please say hello to my new book, Mona Lisa and the Others, illustrated by the one and only SIR QUENTIN BLAKE!

Thanks so much to @thamesandhudson and @museelouvre for giving me the opportunity to explore the Louvre’s incredible collection and to help turn some of the world’s greatest artworks into characters getting the chance to tell their side of the story!

(Spoiler: some of them are pretty miffed at being so RUDELY overshadowed by Mona Lisa - who also, of course, gets a chance to defend herself.)

It was so much fun to write, and a dream to see my words illustrated by someone who drew my most beloved childhood characters. I really hope you and the kids in your life enjoy it, if it seems like your sort of thing, and please spread the word to help others discover it too! ❤️

I’ve had the most amazing time being author in residence for @inspireculturenotts!!

Along with @bigappetite.illustration, artist in residence and the best teammate I could have hoped for, I’ve met so many brilliantly creative and thoughtful children and it’s been an absolute joy to see their ideas and enthusiasm for helping our planet.

I was also blown away by the support of @inspireculturenotts, and the great work they do bringing children (and adults!) the books, spaces and inspiring events that make reading and the arts a fun, accessible part of local life.

Massive thanks to everyone who took part in the workshops and helped us to run them! And I’m so happy to have supported the Summer Reading Challenge, it’s such a great idea for keeping kids reading over the summer and it’s been wonderful to see all the libraries so busy and well loved! 📚 ❤️

If you’re in the Mansfield area, stop by the wonderful library before 11 Sept to see our residency exhibition - and you can marvel at the children’s work for yourself!
