I specialise in children’s illustrated non-fiction, and I love working with publishers to develop fun, child-centred books and other products with an original, creative twist. I have a lot of experience developing and managing print, digital and hybrid projects, for both the trade and educational markets. You can take a look at some of my past editorial and development projects here.

Books

I’ve developed and edited a number of award-winning books, and have worked with publishers including Hachette, Thames & Hudson, Quarto, Bonnier, Walker, Bloomsbury, HarperCollins, Wonderbly, Oxford University Press and Cambridge University Press. I’ve also had great experiences collaborating with several high-profile institutional and commercial partners, from the Louvre and the Science Museum to the hit CBeebies show Messy Goes to OKIDO.

Anna Ridley, Commissioning & Managing Editor, Children's Publishing, Thames & Hudson
Alice is a dream to work with. She has a unique ability for communicating complex ideas to young readers, and is able to compose and edit text that is at once concise and brimming with personality. Matched with rock-solid research skills, a commitment to diversity and inclusion, and the ability to visualise the end book, Alice is the ultimate children’s author and editor.

Georgie Carter, Project Manager, Oxford University Press
It’s been fantastic working with Alice, and I’m so glad she’s come on board the project as a development editor. Alice has been consistently brilliant at sensitively suggesting changes to authors. She has a great eye for picking up on detail, while also being really creative with solutions and bearing in mind students’ needs at all times.

Georgia Amson-Bradshaw, Publisher, Quarto Kids
Alice is an extremely experienced, creative and versatile development editor and author. She brings a strong awareness of current cultural issues to her writing and idea development work. I would recommend her for any project.

Freelance editorial direction

In addition to editing and managing specific projects, I also enjoy working with publishers in need of senior editorial support through a particularly busy period or on a longer-term, part-time basis. I am currently freelance Editorial Director at the award-winning b small publishing.
